Charting a Course

Evan-Moor welcomed new board members from Lincoln Learning, Bob Clements and Bruce Boliver, for the Advisory Board meeting held on November 21, 2019, in the Monterey office.  The Advisory Board heard presentations covering finance, sales, and a new product launch, and provided direction to help ensure Evan-Moor is on the right course. The Evan-Moor Advisory Board meets quarterly and will convene again in February.

Security Briefing: Ranger Joe brings you “Top 12 Tips to start 2020”

1. Limit your personal information online. Check the privacy settings of all social media platforms and ensure they are set to the maximum, or even better, get rid of social media.
2. Use a different passphrase for every website and service. Password re-use is one of the main ways hackers gain access to all of your accounts.
3. Update all devices. Make sure that your phone, PC, and MACs all have the latest updates and security patches.
4. Be aware of phishing campaigns. You did not inherit millions of dollars from a lost Uncle in Italy. It’s a scam.
5. Be up-to-date on all the latest scams that hackers are using. Trust, but verify, information.
6. When not in use, turn off your computer. Once hackers gain access, they typically only look for information during “off” hours – late evenings. If your computer if off, they will be unable to look for information when you’re not on it.
7. Change all passphrases at least once per year.
8. If you have been the victim of a scam or attack, immediately report it to your local police department. Although they may not be able to help, this will create a paper trail for bank and insurance reasons.
9. Identity theft can happen at any time. Sign up for a credit monitoring service, such as CreditKarma. Monitor all your cards for unauthorized charges.
10. Never use public computers, such as those at the library, to access personal accounts.
11. Be aware of “smishing” and phone campaigns, which are similar to phishing campaigns, but are done through text messaging and phone calls. For example, the IRS will never call you.
12. When available, enable Multi-Factor Authentication – MFA – where you need your account credentials AND your cellphone or other device to access online accounts.

Holiday Cheer

Thanks to the generosity of our board and executive team, LLS employees enjoyed a festive afternoon at Shadow Lakes in celebration of the holidays.

Evan-Moor employees gathered at the Montrio Bistro in Monterey for a festive lunch and enjoyed the rest of the day off!

Choose Choice

Every January, tens of thousands of schools from across the country participate in National School Choice Week to show their support for parents having education options. This year, it takes place January 26 - February 1, 2020, with two events taking place in Pennsylvania.

• Student Showcase and Celebration Rally on Tuesday, January 28 at 11 a.m. at Executive Education Academy Charter School in Allentown. 
• School Choice Rally for Education Excellence on Thursday, January 30 at 11 a.m. at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School in Midland. 

Meanwhile, stay in tune to what’s happening in the state Capitol that impacts educational choice. We encourage you to express your opinions on the issue to your state representatives.
